Match Reports 2005-6

25/9/05
Clough progressed to the League Cup second round with a comfortable win over the Division Two high flyers Field S&S. The home side looked very capable and had only conceded six goals in their opening seven matches prior to lat Saturday but they struggled to cope with the pace of Premier Division Cloughs wide men.
The visitors all but sealed their progress by half-time after building a 3-0 lead amid although they eased off still had enough to create another two goals.
Mattie Fahy and former Liversedge striker Nathan James caused havoc out wide and after eight minutes a James cross from the right was converted by Colin Wood. Seven minutes later Matty Thomas ran into the area and was tripped. Wood stepped up to covert the pen and give Cough breathing space. Five minutes before half-time James converted Fahy's left wing corner to put the visitors 3-0 up. A Field own goal, then Wood eventually completed his hat-trick, to cap a MoM display, when he raced in on goal and although the goalkeeper saved his shot, Wood converted his rebound.

Carlton 0-1 Clough WR County Challenge Cup
Colin Wood clearly relished his return to a centre forward role as he scored the winner for Clough in the first round of the WR County Challenge Cup. Clough lost heavily to Carlton in the League a couple of weeks ago when Clough missed two penalties. However on Sat Clough could have been 4-0 up before half time such were the chances they created.
Wood made sure Clough got the reward they deserved with a good strike and the defence held on to make good progress. Wood has taken on the striker's role as Clough are severely depleted up front with Steve McGlone out suspended while Danny Clapham is injured. Former Liversedge striker Nathan James has bolstered the ranks and will look to make an impact against Horsforth in a league match this weekend. Clough are still without Mattie Fahy as he recovers from a broken collarbone.

In delayed third round tie Clough eased to a 4-0 success at home to Hunsworth.
Steve McGlone (two) Matt Fahy plus an own goal saw Clough book a Quarter Final against Littletown on Sat Mar18th KO 1.30pm.
