Sat 8 Nov. Howden
Clough 4-2 Pool
Clough produced an excellent first half display to seal victory. Andy
Pounder, Lee Padgett and Neil Griffiths ran midfield while strikers Colin
Wood and Steve McGlone were a constant threat.
Colin Wood scored first, Lee Padgett added a second before Steve McGlone
struck three minutes after the restart. Clough then eased off and Pool hit
back with a penalty before adding a second.
But third placed Clough then upped the tempo and Steve McGlone sealed the
points five mins from time.
Sat 15 Nov Littletown 2-2 Howden Clough (AET Clough won 3-1 on
Pens)
For the second successive season, Cough dumped a West Riding County Amateur
Premier Division side out of the Wheatley Cup on penalties.
Clough enjoyed playing on the excellent surface at Beck Lane, passing the
ball well and dominating the early stages.
Steve McGlone gave Clough a deserved lead after 10 min's, but despite
continuing to play better football, the visitors were delt a cruel blow on
30mins. The impressive Lee Padgett jumped for a header in midfield, but on
landing his studs caught in the ground and he suffered a broken ankle. He
was kept in hospital Sat night but will be out of action for the rest of the
season.
Just two mins after the restart, with the visitors still trying to
reorganise Jackson fired home from 30yds to send the sides in level at half
time.
Two min's into the second half Clough fell behind as a ball rebounded to the
Littletown striker who was left with a simple finish. Clough battle back and
three mins later Matt Fahy headed home for the equaliser. A midfield battle
ensued for the rest of the game, Andy Pounder and Neil Griffiths were
excellent, Clough created a couple of chances during extra time but the
sides were deadlocked. In the penalty shoot out Colin Wood gave Clough the
lead after Littletown had missed their opening pen while McGlone crashed
home their second after the hosts had levelled. Kieran Hallas saved
Littletown's third , Danny Cooper put Clough 3-1 up before Littletown missed
again to see Clough through.
Wheelwright OB 0-4 Howden Clough (21/2/04)
Clough eased into the Wheatly Cup Semi Finals with a comfotable win over
Wheelwright. The turning point came after 23mins when prolific scorer Steve
McGlone powerfully headed Clough in front and a penalty minites later
doubled their lead. All Cloughs key players were in form to ensure there was
no cup shock. Colin Wood produced some excellent crossos and was rewared
with two goals, while Danny Clapham and Matt Fahy also had impressive games.
Rothwell Ath 3-2 Clough (28/2/04)
Cloughs promotion hopes were dented when they suffered a 3-2 defeat. Clough
remain top but Sandy Lane are a point behind with four games in hand, while
Rothwell are three behind with three games in hand. Athletic raced to a two
goal lead early in the first half but Steve McGlone and Colin Wood replied
for Clough before the break. The second half remained tight but Rothwell
scored 10 min from the end.
