24 Sept 06
The U8 Red team battled to a 2-2 draw with Dewsbury Rangers A. Clough soaked up early pressure with Taylor Goldthorpe and Josh Walton defending solidly. Niall Walker scored both, pouncing on long goal kicks on 10 mins and just before half time. Sean Rhodes had shots saved from crosses by Connor Wood and Joshua Foster. Alex Newsome tackled well in midfield. Ethan Yardley shone in defence and Sam Isles pulled off some fine saves. Rangers hit back with 2 goals early in the second half. Both teams could have had a winner, a Newsome free-kick going close, but a draw was a fair result. Player of the match was Walton.
The U8 Green team beat Dewsbury Rangers B 1-0 with a fine goal, set up by Demi Nicholls and scored by Andrew MacDonald. James Murray had a solid game in goal and James Butterworth, Saad Aziz, and Callum Haynes shone in defence. Harry Oates provided strong support for Ben Rhodes to have a good strike. Player-of-the-match Timmy Ciaughton put pressure on Rangers throughout while Patrick Howgate and Andrew Murray impressed in midfield.

Gildersome Spurs U8 Verses Howden Clough U8’s Sunday 1st October 2006.
U8 Red Team played a great game to draw 2-2 with Gildersome Spurs A. Determined to reverse last seasons heavy defeat Clough started the stronger with Niall Walker producing a fine shot before Sean Rhodes lobbed their keeper for the lead. Joshua Foster produced some good wing play and in midfield Alex Newsome contained Gildersome playmaker with some fine marking and tackling until giving away a free  kick led to the equaliser. Despite some strong defence and great clearances from player of the match Ethan Yardley and Taylor Goldthorpe Gildersome led 2-1 at halftime. From the restart Goldthorpe knocked it long to Rhodes who ran, cut inside and deservedly equalised. A string of fine saves in a confident display by keeper Sam Isles and good work by Connor Wood and Tommy Claughton kept Gildersome out.
U8 Green
Team continued their unbeaten run with a 3-0 win over Gildersome spurs B. Keeper James Murray started well with some good saves before Andrew Macdonald shot from distance giving the keeper no chance. James Butterworth and Saad Aziz were strong in defence and Demi Nicholls worked hard under pressure. Second half Clough stepped up the pace to keep Gildersome in their half. An excellent cross by Callum Haynes set up Ben Rhodes to slot home a superb effort. Some strong tackling by Patrick Howgate earned him Player of the Match. Harry Oates completed a strong second half with a powerful shot into the top corner.

U8 Greens 4-2 St Josephs
The U8s gained a thrilling win against St Josephs who scored early on. Despite good tackles by Ben Rhodes and good defence from James Butterworth and James Blackhall they added a second.
Andrew MacDonald pulled a goal back and a good pass from Adam Townsend saw MacDonald equalise before half time.
Jack Fryer and Demi Nicholls worked hard in midfield and Fryer scored to give Clough a 3-2 lead. Harry Oates denied St Josephs with some good saves. Joe Crabtree worked hard on the wing and Fryer made it 4-2. Player of the match was MacDonald.
U8 Reds 1-1 St Josephs
The U8 Reds made a slow start and conceded an early goal to a strong St Josephs team. Clough battled back with good play from Joseph Foster and Conner Woods while MoM Sean Rhodes was unlucky not to score with a cracking long range shot.
The second half picked up speed with strong runs from captain Tommy Claughton and a shot from Nial Walker. St Josephs  worked hard but couldn't break the outstanding defence of Taylor Goldthorpe and Josh Walton. Impressive passing and intelligent play saw Ethan Yardley equalise and a confident late save by Sam Isles earned Clough a 1-1 draw.

U8'S REDS AND GREENS DOUBLE SUCCESS!!
The u8 Reds were back to their winning ways with an entertaining 2-1 win against Tingley. Clough had most of the play in the first half-MOM Tommy Claughton powering a shot just over the bar from a Connor Woods corner early on and Sean Rhodes blasting in a powerful goal from a Tingley goal kick taking Clough into the lead. Captain Josh Walton had a great game and a corner from him saw Birthday Boy Josh Foster rifle in a second goal. Second half required strong defence due to windy conditions but as ever Taylor Goldthorpe was outstanding and Callum Haynes tackled well to keep Tingley out with good support from Ethan Yardley.
Goalkeeper Sam Isles commanded his team well and was rarely troubled. Tingley scored from a well taken penalty late on but confident team play kept the winning score to 2-1.

The u8's Green team saw an early first goal against Tingley from Jack Fryer soon to be followed by another by Andrew Macdonald. An excellent run by Fryer saw a second Macdonald goal. Player of the match Demi Nicholls had some excellent chances but was unlucky not to score and Joe Crabtree and James Butterworth stood strong in defence. Goalkeeper Harry Oates was rarely troubled keeping the score 3-0 at half time. The second half saw strong runs from Fryer resulting in his second goal soon followed by yet another making his hat trick! Patrick Howgate and Ben Rhodes passed well and Adam Townsend defended well but Tingley fought back with two goals late on making the final Clough victory 5-2.

11 Mar 07
Howden Clough were unlucky to loose 1-0 in a closely contested game when they visited Dewsbury Rangers.
Both teams started with confidence with the welcome return of Niall Walker and Josh Foster was soon testing the Dewsbury keeper. Dewsbury fought back with strength but Captain Taylor Goldthorpe in defence stood strong. The supporters were treated to a feast of good football with fearless tackling from Josh Walton and Foster going close from a Walker corner. Soon Clough were attacking again with potential goal scorer Sean Rhodes frustratingly taken down in the box by the Dewsbury keeper. The second half was bristling with urgency and pace with Tommy Claughton making great ground down the left wing and Connor Wood and Jack Fryer chasing goals in a battle to see which team would be the first to score. Dewsbury fought on forcing strong saves from keeper MOM Sam Isles and keeping Callum Haynes on his toes in defence. A goalmouth scramble saw a goal for Dewsbury late on which proved to be the only difference between the two teams despite a last minute shot from Ethan Yardley in a top quality game.

 Howden Clough    25.3.07
The Under- 8 Green team went down 2.0 at home to Tingley Athletic B. Clough held their own until Tingley with good passing scored.  Clough had chances seeing Demi Nicholls unlucky not to score. Andrew MacDonald had a solid game and went close by hitting thepost. Tremendous challenges in defence as always came from James Butterworth and James Blackhall keeping the score down. Joe Crabtree gave a corner throw in and Nicholls gave her best.  Harry Oates worked tirelessly down the wing and was also unlucky not to score with some brilliant crosses. Second half saw a substitution, Adam Townsend who battled hard making some superb passes.  A strong shot from Tingley gave them their second goal.  Goal Keeper Ben Rhodes made some first-rate saves and kicks out.  Clough were unlucky not to score and MON was awarded to a well deserved Blackhall.
--------------------------------------------------------
Howden Clough u8 Reds had a fantastic 9-0 win at Tingley Athletic. Clough started strongly with an impressive solo run and goal by mom Jack Fryer in the first minute followed by another soon after. Good defensive team play from Callum Haynes and Ethan Yardley saw most of the play kept in Cloughs half resulting in a hat trick from Niall Walker(the best from a fabulous corner kick) and strong wing play from Tommy Claughton leading to a powerful shot to the back of the net by Josh Foster making the score 6-0 at half time. A team change around for the second half was Connor Woods' chance to shine and his hard work resulted in his hat trick. Tingley fought back with their heads high keeping Josh Walton busy on the wing.
Keeper Sam Isles had little to do but enjoy the teams 9-0 victory at full time.
