U11 Development Policy

Player and Coach Development Policy
Under 11's and 12's-Within League Rules
Continue individual soccer skills and team work coaching, concentrate on technical ability and tactics, monitor improvement of and promote individuals responsibility for improvement. Increase the stretching routines to include light stamina training, continue warm up and cool down sessions before and after games as well as training sessions. Begin to place players in positions of play (for continuity) but still move them around within the team occasionally. Organise into 1st and 2nd teams (within league rules), 1st team coach to have first pick of the age group, players not required for 1st team duty in that week to be included in the 2nd team squad. Continue the theme that winning is fun without pressure to succeed, success is expected more in 1st team than in the 2nd.
Where possible play friendly games where the 1st and 2nd teams can be mixed to make up teams, this promotes teamwork throughout the age group, training games would be a good starting point for this. All players in these age groups to train together.

Tiger’s were missing key players for this tie and it told with the final score. Thornes Blues went ahead early on but the Tigers fought back quickly with George Spencer bringing the scores level, Spencer assisted by Lewis Boddy then added another before the break. Thornes brought the game level again through some good passing play and continued to add to their tally, until Thomas was brought down in the area and quickly scored the resulting penalty. Tigers then conceded a penalty of their own which Thornes scored. Peter Foster, Jack Wilkinson, Oliver Lodge, Ryan Smithson and Jordan Mencatelli controlled the midfield in both defence and attack. Joe Hirst was in superb form in goal along with the back four of Ethan Gomersall, Matthew Banks, Josh Aprcovic and Joel Williams who defended well. The Man-of-the-Match award went to Joel Williams who defended solidly and showed a true sportsman-like attitude throughout the game.

Howden Clough Tigers played some of their best football of the season in this Charles Rice Invitation Cup 2nd round game, however it was the visitors who booked their place in the quarter finals after it finished 0 – 5 to St. Joseph’s. St. Josephs who are in the league above the Tigers, scored after 5 minutes but solid defending from Joel Williams, Matthew Banks, Matthew Brosnan and Captain Ethan Gomersall, resulted in the Tigers only conceding 1 more before half time. In the second half Brian Day, Peter Foster, Jack Wilkinson, Bradley Parkes, Ashton Thomas, Ryan Smithson and Jordan Mencatelli worked hard in midfield to win the ball but George Spencer’s and Ashley Woods’ best efforts on goal were all saved by the St. Joseph’s keeper. Joe Hirst once more pulled off some amazing saves throughout but the ‘Man-of-the-Match’ award went to Ethan Gomersall who defended solidly.
Brian Day received the ‘Fair Play Award’ for his excellent conduct and sportsman-like attitude throughout the game.

23/11/08
Ever improving Howden Clough Tigers showed discipline and determination
to earn a much deserved 2 – 1 win against Garforth Rangers.
After a goal-less first half, the Tigers took the lead early in the second half through Man-of-the-Match Brian Day, scoring after a goal-mouth scramble. Garforth Rangers equalised later through a long-range effort but within minutes the Tigers had once more taken the lead through a superb trade-mark
Peter Foster run from mid-field beating the keeper in a one-on-one. Day, Foster, Tom Thornton, Ryan Smithson, Jack Wilkinson and Ashton Thomas all worked very hard making numerous opportunities for strikers Joel Williams and Jordon Mencatelli.
Joe Hirst looked ever more confident in goal with his defence of Matthew Banks, Thomas Wyper, Even Bone and captain Ethan Gomersall dealing with the Rangers’ attacks throughout the game.
Joel Williams received the ‘Fair Play Award’ for excellent conduct and discipline throughout the game.

11/01/09
Despite this game finishing 4-0 to Stanley United, Howden Clough Tigers put in an excellent account of themselves against a strong United team and were definitely the better side in the first half having numerous chances to take the lead. But it was against the run of play that a frustrated Stanley United eventually managed to penetrate the Tiger’s solid defence of Matthew Banks, Man-of-the-Match Thomas Wyper, Evan Bone and Captain Ethan Gomersall slotting past in-form keeper Joe Hirst. In the second half though Stanley were the stronger side scoring 3 goals without reply but Tiger’s midfield of Tyler Holdsworth, Ryan Smithson, Jack Wilkinson and Tom Thornton made it very hard work for them along with Joel Williams and Bradley Parkes who worked exceptionally hard to win the ball up front. Parkes received the ‘Fair Play Award’ for excellent effort and discipline throughout the game.
