It was a top of the table clash over at
redoubt home of Wakefield Utd who entertained Howden Clough
U10 B. It was clough who started the brighter and went close
through impressive George Woodcock. Clough played well from the
back throughout the game and goalkeeper Guy Hardwick earned
himself m.o.m with a string of class saves. Resolute defending
from Rob Naylor and James Leadbeater kept United at bay while
the attacking prowess of midfielders Declan Sheehan, Conner
Teale and Woodcock posed questions of the united back line. It
was Clough who deservedly made the breakthrough with inform
striker George Spencer scoring his 10th goal in 4 games with a
stunning volley into the corner of the net, Jamie Cawtheray
worked his socks off and linked well with the attack whilst
remembering his defensive duties at the same time, Alex
Hasioszyn was introduced with Lawrence Killey and they both
posed threat to united goal but it was another move between the
2 George's woodcock and Spencer that broke the united
resistance. Woodcock let a left foot drive go towards the goal
which the keeper did well to save but Spencer was on hand to mop
up his 11th in 4 games with a lethal finish from 2 ft!. The
United team didn't give up and posed a few threats of their own
and a great corner was met with a towering header to pull 1 back
but clough held on for the victory.
-----
Wakefield Utd v Clough u10's friendly
(11-a-side)
Clough played their first 11-a-side
match in preparation for next season and the signs are there for
a good team, from a Wakefield k.o there was a bit of confusion
and Clough picked the ball up and front man Lawrence Killey
piped the keeper to make a quick 1-0, Hardwick in goal was
again in fine form and had to be against a very determined
united team. defenders Thomas Jackson James Leadbeater Jamie Cawtheray and
Alex Hasioszyn worked well and linked with the
midfield four of Charlie (twinkle Toes) Toulson, Rob Naylor, Joe
Woodhouse and speed demon Declan Sheehan. upfront were Ashley
woods and Lawrence Killey who both linked well with midfield and
made some intelligent runs. Dominic Hale was a thorn in the
United side and worked tirelessly throughout ,Conner Teale and
George Spencer also had a good game which was a very even game
played in the correct spirit a draw would have been a fair
result going on work ethic but it was Clough who nicked a 2nd
through Hasioszyn to win the match 2-0.
