Clough start the season top of division 1 with a well earned victory over
Silsden Ladies 2 - 0 From the start clough struggled to find form and found
it difficult to breakdown the Silsden defence and beat the offside trap
Silsden though created chances breaking through the clough defence but a
superb display from keeper Sarah Morton kept clough in the game Clough then
hit a purple patch with Emma Rutherford and Sarah Wood coming close but just
missing the target Second period saw Clough stepping up play and Lucy
Maude's free kick was converted by Stacey Wood to give Clough a deserved
lead Cloughs confidence improved has they took command of the game and Helen
Wagstaffs shot from outside the penalty area ensured victory
Women's West Riding County Cup
University of Bradford 0 v Howden Clough Ladies 10 (ten)
Half time 0 v 2
Clough Ladies were 10 - 0 victors over Bradford University in the first
round of the women's west riding county cup Clough started the stronger
creating several chances but Emma Rutherford and Louise Iken failed to
convert due to stout defending and some superb saves from the Bradford
keeper Bradford held on half way through the first half until Clough captain
Helen Wagstaff led the way by intercepting a poor clearance and curling the
ball pass the keeper from long range Clough went two up just before the
interval when Emma Walker drove home from just outside the box.
The restart saw Bradford determined to pull one back but Rebecca Croft and
Kirsty Glyde defended well Clough then started to dominate and four goals
from Sarah Wood a brace from Lucy Maude and strikes from Stacey Wood and
Jeanne Mills ensured Clough victory.
Howden Clough Ladies 3 v 1 Farsley Celtic

Clough Ladies eventually ran out winners over close rivals Farsley Celtic 3
- 1 in a game that lived up to expectations of two rival teams The game
started slow with both teams cancelling each other out but Cloughs Jeanne
Mills latched onto a couple of chances but failed to convert Farsley raised
their game and took control and were unlucky not to take the lead as a long
range strike hit the bar Farsley started to dominate but a good defensive
display and superb goalkeeping from Sarah Morton kept them out
The re - start saw Clough change formation to try and win the battle in
midfield but Farsley continued to press and took a deserved lead from a long
range strike giving the Clough keeper little chance
Clough settled and pressurised Farsleys defence and Louise Iken pounced on a
loose ball inside the box to grab the equalizer Cloughs midfield took
control and Emma Rutherfords darting run down the line set up Sarah Wood to
slide the ball pass the keeper to give Clough the lead Shortly after Helen
Wagstaffs drive hit the bar and from the rebound Sarah Woods header hit the
bar as well and Farsley weathered the storm until Stacey Woods late strike
sealed the points for Clough.
Howden Clough Ladies 1 v 6 Guisley

In a game with the common saying a game in two halves certainly rang true
with top of the table Guisley ran out 6 - 1 victors over Clough Ladies From
the start Guisley exerted pressure on Cloughs defence who weathered the
storm and Clough created chances but were unable to convert Guisley came
back into the game and on 25 min cut outside the full back to take the lead
striking the ball across the keeper Clough stepped up play and a superb pass
from Sarah Wood set up Louise Akin to score the goal of the game volleying
under the keeper.
The restart looked promising for Clough with Sarah Wood and Akin going close
but a lapse of concentration in defence allowed Guisley to take the lead.
Clough battled well but a more experienced Guisley started to dominate play
to earn a well deserved victory.
West Riding Women's County Cup
White Rose 2 v 1 Howden Clough
Half time 0 v 1
Despite dominating most of the game Clough ladies lost out 2-1 to North
Eastern women's league division 1 league leaders White Rose Ladies Clough
started the strongest stringing several good moves together but were unable
to convert chances with Emma Rutherford Louise Aiken and Emma Walker coming
close Clough kept their patience and Stacey Woods free kick found Rutherford
who crossed for Sarah Wood to hit low under the keeper giving Clough a
deserved interval lead
The re start saw White Rose exert pressure on Coughs defence but keeper
Sarah Morton commanded her area well and Sam Coulthard, Emma Lafanechere,
Emma Walker and Stacey Wood defended well Cloughs midfield of Helen Wagstaff,
Lucy Maude and Jodie Hunter gained control but with just 8 minutes to go
White Rose broke through to grab an unexpected equaliser Clough launched
several strikes at goal but White Rose grabbed the winner 2 minutes from
time
Howden Clough Ladies 11 v 0 Shipley Ladies
Half time 2 v 0
Clough ladies progressed into the next round of the West riding League cup
with a convincing 11 - 0 victory over second division opponents Shipley From
the start Clough took command and went close after a superb overlap and
cross from Kirsty Glyde found Louise Aiken who's shot brought out a good
save from the keeper Most of the play was in Shipleys half and Helen
Wagstaff broke the deadlock chipping over the keeper Just before the
interval Sarah Wood increased the lead latching onto a rebound off the
keeper
The re start saw Clough grow in strength and Becky Croft set up the third
when after a fine run down the line found Sam Coulthard who crossed for
Jodie Hunter to fire home at the far post.
Shipley tried to raise their game but further strikes with a brace from
Louise Aiken an hat trick from Emma Rutherford and Sarah Wood bringing her
tally
to four sealed victory

Clough ladies eventually ran out 5 - 0 winners over Silsden Ladies From the
start Clough exerted pressure on the Silsden defence but were unable to
convert chances with the keeper dominating the area and making some superb
saves Silsden went through a purple patch but stout defending and Clough
keeper Sarah Morton were always in control.
The restart saw clough launch several attacks and the deadlock was broken
when Sarah Wood was taken out by the keeper and the resulting penalty was
converted by Helen Wagstaff to give Clough a deserved lead Shortly after
Emma Rutherford broke the off side trap lobbing the keeper to make it two
Clough gained in stature and Wagstaff broke from midfield to hit a long
range shot pass the keeper making it three Clough introduced Louise Iken who
was a constant threat to Silsdend defence and Clough increased their lead
with Sarah Wood pulling the ball back from the goal line for Rutherford to
grab her brace Clough finished in style as a superb one two in midfield
between Wagstaff and Lucy Maude set up Stacey Wood to seal the points
Howden Clough Ladies 2 v 0 Bradford City (08/01/06)

Clough ladies avenged a previous 6-1 defeat into a 2-0 victory against
Bradford City From the start Clough excerted pressure on Citys defence with
Louise Iken and Emma Rutherford going close but a darting run through citys
defence by Sarah Wood resulted in a penallty which was converted by Helen
Wagstaff.
Cloughs midfield started to dominate with Lucy Maude, Jodie Hunter and
Wagstaff creating several chances and a through ball to Sarah Wood found
Iken who set up Rutherford to lob the keeper to make a two nil interval
lead.
The restart saw Clough continue to dominate and a Wagstaff corner was
cleared off the line and a long range effort from Stacey Wood produced a
superb save from the keeper.
City then went through a purple patch but stout defending from Emma
Lafanechere, Emma Walker, Stacey Wood and Sam Coulthard kept them at bay
with keeper Sarah Morton commanding the area well.
Farsley Celtic 3 v 2 Howden Clough Ladies

A close battle between close rivals Farsley Celtic saw Farsley take the
spoils with a 3-2 victory In a game of two halves Clough started the
stronger and were close on taking the lead as Kirsty Glyde and Lucy Maude
created chances for Anna Keeligan but was unable to convert Jeanne Mills
broke down the left and hit a thunderous shot which hit the upright and onto
the post Stacey Wood struck from long range and the rebound off the upright
was converted by Keeligan to give Clough the lead
The re start saw Farsley catching Clough cold to equalize with a superb chip
over the advancing keeper After containing Farsley pressure Clough came back
into the game with Keeligan hitting the post and Maude s header saved by the
keeper, then a through ball from Helen Wagstaff found Sam Coulthard who made
no mistake to give Clough the lead Farsley raised their game and went into a
3-2 lead and a superb save from Sarah Morton kept Clough in the game Clough
gambled and put centre back Stacey Wood up front and despite a couple of
late chances was unable to convert
West Riding Cup
Huddersfield Town 1 v 3 Howden Clough Ladies
Half Time 0 v 0
Howden Clough Ladies secured a quarter final place in the West Riding cup
against Hebden Royd after a 3-1 victory over Huddersfield Town Clough
started the stronger creating several chances and were unlucky not to take
the lead as Louise Ikins shot was cleared off the line only to find Sarah
Wood who effort brought out a good save fromsave from the keeper Emma Rutherfords penetrating run resulted with her cross to the far post saw Sarah Wood just failing to make contact Town stepped up play and started to dominate but stout defending from Rebecca Croft, Sam Coulthard, Stacey Wood and Emma Walker kept them at bay and keeper Sarah Morton commanding the area well
Silsden 1 v 5 Howden Clough Ladies

Clough Ladies went to joint second in the league after an impressive 5-1 victory over Silsden Clough started the stronger with Louise Ikin and Helen Wagstaff going close Clough deservedly took the lead when Wagstaffs through ball to Sarah Wood hit a tremendous shot pass the keeper to give Clough the lead Silsden searched to equalize and a searching cross crept in at the far post levelling the score Clough again took control but superb saves denied Emma Rutherford, Jodie Hunter and Ikin giving Cloughan interval lead.
The re start saw Clough step up play and a through ball from Hunter enabled Rutherford to latch onto it to give Clough a deserved lead Shortly after a poor clearance from the Silsden defence saw Lucy Maudes fearsome shot hit the top corner Rutherford always a threat to Silsdens defence held the ball up well and laid back to central defender Stacey Wood who made it four Late on Wagstaff set up Hunter who's fine strike over the keeper made up the tally
Howden Clough Ladies
Howden Clough 4 v 2 West End Half time 1 v 2
Clough Ladies inflicted the first defeat of the season against current league champions West End with a 4-2 victory and go top of division 1 Both teams searched for a way to penetrate through to goal but Clough keeper Sarah Morton took control commanding the area well but a cross from Vicky Saul found its way into the top corner of the far post to give West End the lead Clough fought back but despite brave efforts from Louise Ikin and Emma Rutherford Clough went further behind with a superb long range effort to make it 2-0 Clough went in search of a goal before the break and Emma Rutherfords superb effort reduced the deficit to 2-1 The restart saw clough raise their game and were awarded a penalty after a push from a defender which Helen Wagstaff converted into the top corner Clough then turned the game around with Jodie Hunter heading home a Rutherford cross The visitors threw everything they had to pulling a goal back but were unable to break through a dominating defensive display from Emma Walker, Sam Coulthard, Emma Lafanechere and Stacey Wood Late on Lucy Maude set up Rutherford who's fine strike from an acute angle ensured victory
First division Clough ladies earned a plum semi final tie against Bradford City after an 11-0 victory over
second division strugglers Hebden Royd Royd to their credit battled well but a superb team effort from clough earned them a comfortable victory Sarah Wood grabbed a first half hat trick and Jodie Hunters brace followed by a goal from Stacey Wood made up the first half total
Second period saw Sarah Wood make her tally to five and Helen Wagstaff Sam Coulthard and a second from Stacey Wood made up the score Kerry Brooks impressed on her debut and good work from Rebecca Croft
The semi final will take place at Batley Sports & Tennis Centre on the 26th March kick off 2-00 pm
