12 Oct Clough maintained their 100% home record with a convincing 8-1 win over Crossley. Toni Mallin opened her account with a well taken goal and added a penalty after a hand ball. Good defending from Ellie Tasker, Laura Costello, Vicky Hargreaves and goalkeeper Clarissa Marshall kept Crossley at bay. Good passing from Holly Griffiths set up Mallin to complete her hat-trick. Lucy Cawtheray worked tirelessly and Angelina Egan provided crosses.A slick move by Lauren Slatter and Egan set up Mallins forth goal. Player of the day Egan made it six after Cawtherays throw. Jessica Burrows had another impressive game at the back, while Mary Tynan worked hard and was denied by a great save. Crossley hit a consolation but Senior and Mallin added further goals to complete the win. ------------------------------------- 26 Oct Clough 3 Horsforth St Marys 1 A game of 2 halves. First half Clough played with the advantage of the very strong wind and after many near misses managed to build a 3 goal lead at half time. A great battling second half saw the visitors restricted to just one goal and very few efforts and we showed that we can battle out victories. A fine win in tough conditions. Player of the game - Holly -------------------------------------- 2 Nov Clough 10 Wrenthorpe 2 Biggest win of the season and a great 2nd second half saw Clough propelled into 2nd in the league. Clough took a 3-2 lead into the break courtesy of a 1st half hat-trick from Heleena. Having caused massive problems for Wrenthorpe down the left hand side, Heleena thoroughly deserved her goals. It took Clough a while to settle and a couple of fine saves by Jenny Senior kept Clough in front. The second half was different story. Jessica Burrows came to the fore after a slow first 20 mins and there was to be no beating her. Great defensive work throughout the game by Vicky Hargreaves ensured that Clough remained a constant threat. Second half hat tricks by Alice Senior and substitute Mary Tynan gave Clough an unassailable lead and there was great relief all round when Lucy Cawtheray scored her first goal of the season. I'm 100% positive that Lucy will now go from strength to strength and score many more goals. Great performance girls. Keep your feet on the ground and keep working hard Player of the game - Vicky ------------------------------------ 9 Nov Norristhorpe 1 Clough 8 Another fine win and superb performance on a very cold wet and windy day. Clough soon took a 2 goal lead thanks to Lauren Slater and Toni Mallin only to be pegged back after a poor clearance left our hosts with a simple goal. A missed penalty from Norristhorpe gave Clough a bit of a scare but from that moment on it was one way traffic. A truly superb team performance with all 12 girls playing an important part and showing the advantages of having a good squad of players. Toni Mallin and Alice Senior caused problems throughout the game and good defending throughout from Jessica Burrows, Laura Costello, Vicky Hargreaves, Ellie Tasker and Ellie Kissanne ensured there was no way through for Norristhopre. A frozen solid Jenny Senior did what she had to do in goal with some solid handling and good kicking. Holly had another fine game and Lucy really has found her shooting boots with 2 more goals. Clarissa looked sharp and caused problems all the 2nd half but it was another hat trick for Alice that secured a comfortable, well earned victory. With Churwell dropping points in a draw with Wrenthorpe we're now only a point from the top. Keep working hard girls both at training and on a Sunday and I'm sure we can soon be sitting at the top of the league. Player of the game - Alice ----------------------------- 22 Feb 09
Horsforth St M 1 Clough 3 Clough returned to action in style after the weather had caused havoc with the previous couple of weeks fixtures and training. Although trailing 1-0 at the break, we looked the sharper side. Within 10 e re-start, two goals from Lucy Cawtheray - the 2nd a wonderful solo goal outstripping the home sides defenders from the halfway line - gave Clough a well earned lead. Even some 'interesting' decisions by the man in the middle and some even more 'interesting discussions' on the sidelines made no difference as Lauren Slater smashed a great goal into the top corner to seal the points. Top stuff, great performance. Player of the game - Lucy Cawtheray

Clough 6 Burley Trojans 1 Have left Burley a few weeks prior to Christmas feeling a little aggrieved with a 3-3 draw, Clough approached this fixture in a determined mood. Despite losing Lucy Cawtheray, who's been in hot goal scoring form in the last few weeks, during the warm up to a pulled muscle, Clough opened up well and attacked from the off. Goals from Alice Senior and Toni Mallin gave Clough a half time lead. Good saves from the visiting goalkeeper kept the score down. The 2nd half was pretty much one way traffic with Clough hammering away at the Burley goal. Lauren Slater extended the lead and what followed was one of the best team goals witnessed by many at this level of football. Heleena Egan stroked a lovely 35 yard cross field pass out to Toni Mallin who turned the full back. Toni the crossed to the far post where Heleena had continued her run to head into an unguarded net from 6 yards out. A wonderful goal showing the effect of great support play and passing. Laura Costello and a second for Lauren completed a resounding victory for Clough. Alice was carried off injured in the second half and the subs were well used. A great team effort and a good team victory. Solid defending was on display the whole game and I've not witnessed this many headers in a game for a while. There'll be a few sore heads! Well done girls. Keep up the good work and strive to be champions. Player of the game - Ellie Kissane ---------------------------------------------------------------
Sunday 15 March Clough 2 Norristhorpe 0 Although not at their best, Clough battled to victory over a spirited Norristhorpe side and gained a result that takes them to the top of the league for the first time this season. The game started well as Clough scored within 30 seconds of the kick-off. Toni Mallin took on the defence down the right wing before firing in a low shot which took a slight deflection before nestling in the bottom corner. Clough continued to press forward with Heleena causing constant problems to Norristhorpe. Mid-way through the first half saw Lauren Slater bravely put her head in where it hurts and the gamble paid off as her header ended in the far corner of the net. Lauren took a boot in the process but I'm sure the pain was worth it! Jenni Senior had to be alert just on the verge of half-time as she pushed a Norristhorpe shot round the post. The second half was a proper battle with Norristhorpe looking the more likely to score. Jenni had to be sharp a couple of times to keep the visitors out. Lauren unfortunately missed a penalty for Clough which would have put the game beyond reach. Ellie, Jess & Paola had to stay sharp at the back for all the second half as Norristhorpe pushed forward. Olivia Hilton was unlucky to see her shot go wide and Holly Griffiths and Laura Costello had chances to extend the lead. Clarissa again showed great enthusiasm and was willing to put the work in to help keep the lead. Both Paul and Gareth were delighted with the spirit shown and with the games we have in hand gives us the opportunity to push on and make an attempt to win the title. Winning the league will only be achieved through hard work and effort. Well done again girls. Player of the game - Lauren Slater -------------------------------------------------- Clough maintained their unbeaten run which now stretches out to 11 games with a tough 1-1 draw at 2nd placed Horsforth. Clough were definitely not at their best in this encounter but hard work and a never say die attitude helped to make up what seemed to be lacking in skill. This was the 3rd game in a week for some of the girls and it certainly showed during the last third of the game. Unusual mistakes kept creeping into our play and this was evident when we allowed Horsforth to hit an equaliser at the start of the 2nd half following poor defending. Having said that, we did manage to create enough chances to win 2 games and with a bit more luck and composure in front of goal the 3 points would have come our way. Clough did take the lead mid-way through the 1st half when good work down the left from Heleena Egan saw her slide the ball home. Jenni Senior had to be quick and very brave to keep Clough in it when she dived at the feet of the on-rushing attacker and came out with the ball safely in her grasp. Real commitment! Mary buzzed around the midfield and Lauren worked tirelessly and created some good goal scoring chances for herself - ones which she'd usually bury! A half fit Alice was used sparingly and she nearly came up with the goal of the season when running from her own area. Her great skill and speed was only thwarted by a last ditch tackle. Lucy hit a couple of half chances wide but was unable to get in behind the defence as much as we'd like as Horsforth sat deep at the back. Jessica had a great second half chance but slipped a left foot shot wide and Holly fired just over from the edge of the box with a fine effort. Paola looked her usual confident self when coming forward with the ball but made a few uncharacteristic mistakes which only happen once a season! Ellie Kissane gave her usual solid, dependable, performance and not much made it past her. Toni showed good skill at times down the right but was a little quieter than usual. She did cause the fullback problems with her turning and crossing but the ball didn't find its way to her often enough. A special mention must go to Vicky & Clarissa who came and ended up as unused subs. I don't enjoy not being able to use all available players but thanks for not giving me a hard time and I'll ensure you play your part on the pitch during the vital run-in!All in all a decent point that keeps us in the driving seat for the title with 5 games to go. We break from the league next weekend and take on Burly in the shield semi final at Batley with a 1pm kick off on Saturday. Player of the game - Lauren Slater ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wrenthorpe 0 Clough 4 Clough stretched the unbeaten league run to 12 games with a straightforward win at Wrenthorpe. A fine squad performance with all players used and many adapting to unusual positions. Conditions were tough in a strong breeze and a rock-hard pitch but Clough handled it the better and were 3-0 up by half-time. A fine individual goal from Vicky gave Clough an early lead when she coolly slotted home after dribbling past 2 defenders. Mary made it 2-0 with a shot from the edge of the area and it was soon 3 when Toni stroked home from close range. A quiet 2nd half added one more goal for Clough with Laura heading a goal. The most important run of games is now upon us starting with Churwell on Sunday. If we win that one and then beat Crossley on Wednesday and Saturday then we'll be Champions. That's got to be what we aim for now and I know you've got it in you. Player of the game - Mary ------------------------------------------------------------- 5 April Shield Semi Final 9 April Clough 7 Burley 4 The girls made it through to their first cup final since they've been together as a unit and a piece of silverware is now well within their grasp. Clough started the game brighter than Burley and Toni gave Clough the lead early on. Sloppiness at the back gifted Burley an equaliser but Clough put the foot on the gas and raced into a 4-1 half time lead with a 2nd from Toni and 2 from Lauren. A crazy start to the 2nd half saw Burley pull it back to 4-3 with a couple of good goals and it took another burst of energy and 3 quick goals from Mary & Alice to seal a deserved victory. We can now put the cup to the back of our minds and concentrate on our remaining important league games. Win those and we're on for a double! What was pleasing though in the game was the fact that I was able to utilise 14 players and play people out of position. Being able to do this gives a manager great options and shows that we have a very skilful and adaptable squad. The girls showed a good attitude throughout and if we take that attitude and couple it with a stronger desire to win every ball and every game then we should have no fears. Well done on reaching the final. No player of the game today - you all deserve it --------------------------------------------------
19 April Clough 3 Churwell 2 Clough took a giant stride towards clinching the league title with a nervy win against main rivals Churwell. The game started well with Clough scoring in the first 30 seconds as Churwell dithered. Toni drove in a powerful shot that the keeper could only help in from a tight angle. Two minutes later it was 2 goals to the good as Heleena fired in an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net. Clough had chances to extend the lead to four or five but the Churwell keeper made good saves. Jenni had to be alert and produced 2 fine saves to keep the score in Cloughs favour. With a few minutes to half time the lead was 3 as Toni cooly dispatched a penalty into the bottom corner after Heleena had been brought down in the box. Half time came with the girls needing a good rest and drink as the sun was taking its toll. Churwell came out very spirited in the 2nd half and Clough had to work hard to keep them at bay. Paola, Ellie & Jess had to be on top of their game all day as Churwell didn't stop throwing pressure on. Mary & Lauren worked tirelessly and Alice caused problems with her pace and skill. Slack marking from a thro-in gave Churwell slight hope and it was a nervy last 5 minutes as Churwell scored another fine goal. Holly, Laura & Clarissa came off the bench as Clough needed fresh legs in the heat. In the end it was a relief to hear the final whistle. Paul & myself are really proud of how you handled today and the same again in our next 2 games will give you the title that you've all worked so hard for all season. Remember to keep focussed as the next games wont win themselves! Full effort required Player of the game - Jenni. Good saves, great handling, came off the line well and kicked very well ------------------------------------------------ 23 April Clough 4 Crossley 0 Clough finished their home campaign in style and took themselves to within 1 win of the title with a 4 0 victory over a much improved Crossley side. Three first half goals from Alice, Toni & Lucy gave Clough much needed breathing space and a fine individual goal from Alice in the 2nd half rounded off a solid victory. The pleasing aspect was the ability to utilise the players who haven't played as much football as some of the others recently and the will and desire was still there for all to see. Let's take this same attitude into Saturday and claim the title of league champions. With a home record of played 9 won 8 drawn 1 and lost 0 I'm a proud manager! Player of the game - Clarissa Marshall --------------------
26 April
Crossley 0 Clough 5 - Champions! Clough sealed the title on a hot day and a rock hard pitch with a comprehensive 5-0 win at Crossley. The display in the first half settled nerves and ensured that there wasn't going to be an upset. The pace of Alice & Lucy caused problems for the home defence and the trickery of Heleena coupled with her control and speed ensured no rest at the back for Crossley. Lucy scored the best goal of the game and they were soon followed by strikes from Lauren, Clarissa & Alice. Special praise for Clarissa on her performance and her first goal for the club. Alice's persistence gave her a 2nd goal in the 2nd half and rounded off a fine display. Everybody played their part and I'm delighted for each and every one of you -----------------
Clough ended the season with a
fine 2-0 victory over Horsforth St Margarets in the Shield
final on Saturday. In a game played in wind, rain & sun
Clough dominated proceedings and were in front after 10
minutes when Alice Senior slotted home after fine work by
Toni Mallin on the wing. Lauren Slater made it 2-0 with a
superb 20 yard strike that nestled into the top of the net.
A great defensive display set the tone. Ellie Kissane &
Jess Burrows provided the strength whilst the ever
impressive Paola Cavallaro didn't put a foot wrong all
game. Mary Tynan & Lauren provided the midfield quality
with good runing and tough tackling whilst the skill of Toni
& Heleena Egan didn't give the Horsforth back-line a
breather all game. Clough had ample chances to score
another 4 or 5 goals in the 2nd half but wayward finishing
and brave defending kept the score line down. Jenni Senior
spent the majority of the game in goal as a spectator but
handled well when required. The introduction of Lucy
Cawtheray and her express pace ensured Clough remained in
control. The introduction of Holly Griffiths, Laura
Costello, Vicky Hargreaves & Clarissa Marshall ensured the
full squad played part in the victory and showed the all
round strength of the age group.
You're a great set of girls and
you've made Paul & I very, very, proud men! Congratulations
- you deserve everything you've worked for
Player of the game - Jess
