26/9/10
Two strong defences dominated Howden Clough U13 Girls top of the table clash
with Wigton Moor, so a final scoreline of 1-1 was no surprise. Rachel Day
and Isobel Hilton were strong in central defence and keeper Demi Nichols
marshalled the back line well, but the Clough full backs were the stars of
the show, Charlotte Ashton just winning the Girl-of-the-Game award from
Isabel Maguire. Overall Clough had the best of the few chances on offer Alex
Bailey forced a superb save from the Wigton keeper just before half time.
The resilient Wigton took the lead however in the second half when the ball
was headed home after a goalmouth scramble. Clough were quick to respond,
Beth Davies and Charlie Cassidy moved up front and when a pass from Davies
put Cassidy clear, she finished well. New signings Lauren Atkinson and Jodel
Kerr showed an improvement in midfield and Ellie Woods gave her usual hard
working performance.

Despite playing the much better football from start to finish Howden Clough
U13 Girls went down to another long-ball team in Battyeford. The match was
lost in the first 5 minutes, Battyeford capitalised on a couple of defensive
mistakes. Clough got one back when Beth Davies scored direct from a corner.
Clough then gave away a penalty and despite it been hit into the top corner
Demi Nicholls got a hand on it and was unlucky not to make the save. Clough
regrouped defensively and Davies got a second but Battyeford scored a freak
goal before half time when a clearance hit the Battyeford centre forward and
looped over Nicholls. It was all Clough again in the second half, Rachel
Day, Charlotte Ashton and Girl-of-the-Game Lauren Atkinson working the ball
well out of defence Lough had many chances but Battyeford defended well for
a 5-2 victory.

Howden Clough U13 Girls stick to the principal of passing a football, this
paid off handsomely when they clinically took apart Burley Trojans. 90% of
the game was played in the Burley half. After sustained pressure
Girl-of-the-Game Alex Bailey scored two, the 2nd a 25 yard scorcher. After
the break Charlie Cassidy controlled beautifully and lobbed the keeper from
outside the box. Cassidy added a second and Beth Davies and Rachel Day added
to Clough’s total. Keeper Demi Nichols came out and played well up front in
the second half, Ellie Woods deputised and pulled off a couple of good
stops. Charlotte Ashton, Isobel Hilton, Isabel Maguire and Lauren Atkinson
defended well when called upon. Going forward Davies, Cassidy, and Jodel
Kerr used the width of the pitch to great effect, Ashton and Bailey in
particular caused havoc on the flanks. Late on Burley scored a breakaway
consolation goal for a 6-1 final score.

Howden Clough U13 Girls got
off to a fast start and caught Idle Juniors on the hop. After an early
goalmouth scramble Girl-of-the-Game Charlie Cassidy found the net. Soon
after a lovely through ball from Alex Bailey put Cassidy clear for her
second. Idle finally woke up and started playing, Clough defended well,
Isobel Hilton and Lauren Atkinson in particular but a couple of silly
mistakes were punished harshly and Idle got 3 quick goals to take the
lead. After more good work by Bailey, Cassidy managed to get onto the
end of a good cross by Beth Davies to complete her hat-trick. In the
last quarter the game really opened up with good chances at either end
but it was Idle who managed to squeeze a winner from the game, final
score 4-3.

Howden Clough U13 Girls
crashed out of the cup, going down 5-0 at Wigton Moor. This was a
frustrating game for Clough who were superb in the first half. It was a
tight start; Isobel Hilton was a rock in defence throughout well
supported by Charlotte Ashton. As the half progressed the usually hard
working Charlie Cassidy and Beth Davies started to control the midfield
and Clough were on top. Jodel Kerr came on and gave her best performance
of the season so far. Rachel Day battled hard and won Girl-of-the-Game
for her hard work and skilful touches. Clough started the second half
well but three defensive mistakes cost them dearly. As Clough chased the
game Wigton got two more goals on the break.

Howden Clough U13 Girls had
not had a game for almost 2 months and it showed when they were hammered
9-1 by mediocre Hebden Bridge side. Stand in keeper Ellie Woods tried
hard and made a couple of good stops. Isobel Hilton defended well under
pressure, Beth Davies ran her socks off as usual in midfield and Rachel
Day did well up front. Girl-of-the-game was Isabel Maguire who never put
a foot wrong all game. Alex Bailey scored Clough’s consolation goal.

23/1/11
Howden Clough U13 Girls got
back to winning ways with another strong performance beating Idle 3-2.
Goalkeeping duties were again shared by Ellie Woods and Alana King, both
played well. For the second week in succession Clough were solid in
defence, Rachel Day, Isobel Hilton, Charlotte Ashton and Isabel Maguire
providing the foundation for Clough to move forward. As the game went on
it became a pretty bad tempered affair, the Clough midfield of Alex
Bailey, Beth Davies, Lauren Atkinson and Jodel Kerr were strong and gave
more than they got. After sustained pressure Clough made a breakthrough
when lone striker Charlie Cassidy collected the ball on halfway, great
runs from Ashton and Davies drew the defenders to give Cassidy a sight
of goal, that was all she needed to put Clough one up. Clough lost
Maguire to injury just before half time, but Demi Nichols came on and
deputised well.
Clough started the
second half brightly Woods’ hard work up front was rewarded with a goal.
Idle caught Clough out at the restart but Cassidy soon restored the 2 goal
cushion with a driven shot into the bottom corner. Idle snatched another in
the closing minutes but Clough held on for the win they deserved. Kerr was
awarded Girl-of –the –Game for a faultless performance.

30/01/11
Howden Clough U13 Girls
put in a decent performance at home against Hebden Bridge but
finished on the wrong end of a 4-1 score line
. Clough took an early
lead when Jodel Kerr picked up a loose ball on the edge of the area
and fired a left foot shot home. Hebden Bridge came straight back at
Clough and despite Alex Bailey rattling the bar some weak tackling
cost Clough their lead.
The girls played much better in the second
half. Isabel Maguire, Rachel Day and Charlotte Ashton defended well;
the defensive line was led superbly by Girl-of-the-Game Isobel
Hilton. The midfield and attack of Kerr, Bailey, Beth Davies, Demi
Nichols, Lauren Atkinson and Charlie Cassidy worked hard but never
controlled and passed the ball well enough to threaten a strong
Hebden Bridge defence. Keeper Ellie Woods made a few good stops in
the second half but a couple of pacy Hebden Bridge attacking moves
settled the game.

26/2/11
Both Howden Clough U13
Girls and Battyeford played some good football on a demanding surface.
Clough were the stronger team throughout but Battyeford soaked up the
pressure well and were dangerous on the break. After sustained early
pressure Clough took the lead when Alex Bailey fired home from close
range. Battyeford replied when 2 attackers beat the offside trap and
scored almost unchallenged, goalkeeper Ellie Woods who had a faultless
game could do little about it.
Second half was much the same, relentless
pressure from Clough but they just couldn’t break Battyeford down.
Battyeford broke several times but Clough, in particular Isobel Hilton
defended well but one positional lapse let in Battyeford to seal the
win. All the Clough players put in a hard working performance but
Charlie Cassidy won Girl-of-the-Game for a typical hard working,
captains’ performance.

20/3/11
Howden Clough U13 Girls
were dumped out of the shield at the semi final stage when they lost 5-4
to Idle. Both league games between the 2 teams have been bad tempered
affairs and this was no different. Clough though tried to play football
and dominated the 1st half. A goal from Charlie Cassidy and
two goals direct from corners by Lauren Atkinson and Isobel Hilton gave
Clough a 3-2 half time lead. The second half was thrilling end to end
action but Idle were the more clinical and took a 4-3 lead. With 5
minutes to go after sustained Clough pressure Cassidy was fouled 5 yards
outside the box, Girl-of-the-Game Beth Davies stepped up and fired the
free kick into the top corner. Extra time looked certain with Idle
unable to get out of there own half, but they did break and score the
softest of goals to settle the game. Clough, who looked dangerous from
set pieces all day, still had time to force a goal line clearance from a
Jodel Kerr header from a corner. Notable Clough performances came from
Alex Bailey, Demi Nichols, Isabel Maguire and Charlotte Ashton.
