The season’s curtain
raiser saw Howden Clough U12 Girls go down 3-2 at home to Kirkburton.
This was a very disappointing result for Clough who dominated the
game start to finish. The game was won with 3 soft goals and some
great defending from Kirkburton. Clough conceded 2 goals against the
run of play in the first half, after the interval Charlie Cassidy
struck twice and things looked to be going Clough’s way until they
conceded another breakaway goal. Ellie Woods, Anna Martin, Millie
Hawksford and Isabel Hilton defended well, Clough looked very smart
moving up field, the midfield unit of Charlie Cassidy, Megan Ryan,
Demi Nichols and new signing Alex Bailey dominated play, Isabel
Hilton played well up front. Ryan was girl-of-the-game for her high
work rate.

Howden
Clough U12 Girls registered their first win of the campaign in the
second game of the season when they visited Battyeford. As in the
previous game Clough dominated possession from the start. The midfield
unit of Megan Ryan, Charlie Cassidy, Alex Bailey and Demi Nichols
stamped their authority on the game. Isabel Maguire had another solid
game at right back and Ellie Woods defended well in the second half,
unfortunately basic defensive errors cost Clough 2 goals. Clough got
back into the game twice through Cassidy and Clare Booth and late in the
match Girl-of-the-Game Finty Kissane finished a great move by Isobel
Hilton and Cassidy with a volley into the top corner for a well deserved
3-2 win.

A lack of
quality finishing cost Howden Clough U12 girls dearly in a 3-1 home
defeat at the hands of Altofts.
As in their previous 3 league games
Clough dominated possession and territory to the extent they made a
strong Altofts side look very ordinary, unfortunately they could not
turn this pressure into goals. Clough had several clear cut chances in
the first half but a combination of poor finishing and the woodwork
(twice) kept them out. Altofts on the other hand finished 2 chances very
well and were gifted another soft goal to go in at the interval 3 up
despite a solid performance from keeper Anna Martin. Altofts barely got
out of their own half in the second period. Clough defended well through
Isabel Maguire, Charlotte Ashton, Maia Hanson and Millie Hawksford. The
midfield put in another strong performance Megan Ryan and Alex Bailey
having good games. Charlie Cassidy worked hard up front. For all Cloughs
dominance in the second half they created fewer chances than in the
first although Alex Bailey finished well from a corner. Isobel Hilton
was outstanding throughout and won a well deserved Girl of the Game
award.

Howden Clough
Under 12 Girls suffered a 3-0 away defeat to top of the table Wigton
Moor. Chances were few and far between in a very tight first half, with
both defences on top. Charlotte Flynn, Isabel Maguire and Charlotte
Ashton defended well. Wigton started to turn the screw in the second
half and broke the deadlock with 15 minutes to go, a second quickly
followed then Wigton scored a superb 25 yard effort that goalkeeper Demi
Nichols could do nothing about. Isobel Hilton and Megan Ryan worked hard
in midfield but could not break down the Wigton back four. Nichols,
playing her first game in goal never put a foot wrong and won the
Girl-of the- game award.

At the sixth
time of asking, Howden Clough Under 12 Girls finally overcame their
bogey team when they beat Kirkburton 4-3 to progress in the West Riding
Cup.
Clough started slowly and went behind to an early goal. The girls
finally woke up and began to play their best football of the season.
Centre forward Charlie Cassidy finished two moves well, Clare Booth
playing the killer ball for the second. Two superb individual efforts
from Isobel Hilton and Booth made it 4-1 at the interval.
Clough
continued to press after the break and created a number of good chances,
the pick of these a volley by Finty Kissane which shaved the post.
Kirkburton then turned the tide with two quick goals. This gave Clough a
nervy last couple of minutes, but keeper Demi Nichols was again
outstanding. Ellie Woods defended intelligently and Alex Bailey played a
pivotal midfield role. Charlotte Ashton kept defence and midfield
organised in a first class, Girl-of-the-Game performance.

Battyeford coped better
in the wind and rain when they took away 3 points from their visit
to Howden Clough U12 Girls. Clough took an early lead playing up the
slope and into the wind. A good run and shot from Finty Kissane was
parried and Charlie Cassidy followed up to score. Battyeford soon
equalised but Clough played well under pressure, Rachel Day was
solid in defence and the midfield of Isobel Hilton, Megan Ryan and
Alex Bailey worked very hard. Battyeford scored 2 crucial goals,
just before and just after half time from which Clough never
recovered. Hilton got one back for Clough but Battyeford scored
another breakaway goal. Day moved into attack and scored late on.
On
a day of average performances Isabel Maguire stood out head and
shoulders as the Girl-of-the-Game.

A
much improved performance saw Howden Clough U12 Girls prevail
1-0 when they visited Norristhorpe. Clough were playing up a
considerable slope into a very strong wind first half but kept
things so tight at the back Norristhorpe didn’t have one decent
chance. Ellie Woods, Rachel Day, Charlotte Flynn, Isabel Maguire
and Charlotte Ashton all defended well and Millie Hawksford won
every physical challenge, never putting a foot wrong in her
Girl-of-the-Game performance. Clough managed to break out a few
times in the first half; one of these counter attacks saw Isobel
Hilton grab a goal. Second half was all Clough, Megan Ryan, Alex
Bailey, Demi Nichols and Hilton all worked hard to keep
possession and territorial advantage, Finty Kissane showed some
nice touches out wide and Charlie Cassidy worked hard up front.
Norristhorpe did break away in the last minute but a brave piece
of goalkeeping from Anna Martin ensured Clough got the three
points.

8/11/09
Howden Clough U12 Girls suffered their worst defeat of the
season going down 6-0 to league leaders Altofts. Clough lost the
game in the first 5 minutes, a combination of lack of commitment
and good Altofts finishing saw them score three quick goals.
Altofts added another before half time. Clough played much
better in the second half, but still did not create much in the
way of clear cut chances. Girl-of-the-game Maia Hanson put in a
brave, committed defensive display, Charlotte Ashton and Megan
Ryan also defended well. The midfield of Alex Bailey, Isobel
Hilton and Rachel Day worked hard but could create nothing for
hard running striker Charlie Cassidy. Another goal plus a great
finish from the Altofts right winger sealed the game.

Howden Clough U12 Girls lost 4-0 to Wigton Moor, a result that
belied Clough's possession and commitment in a very physical
encounter. Wigton went 3 up in the first half, two of the goals
long range efforts and Clough were always going to struggle to
get back into the game. Girl-of-the-Game Finty Kissane ran
herself into the ground. There were also solid performances from
Demi Nichols, Charlotte Ashton, Alex Bailey, Millie Hawksford,
Isabel Maguire and Rachel Day. Clough were camped in the Wigton
half in the second period, but only broke the strong defence a
couple of times near the end. Charlie Cassidy, Megan Ryan and
Isobel Hilton put their bodies on the line time and again, more
than matching the physicality of a big Wigton team.
Unfortunately Wigton broke again late in the game to settle the
result.

Howden Clough Under 12 girls yet again came up against Altofts,
this time a cup tie and although Clough played very much better
than their last contest, Altofts still ran out comfortable 9-2
winners. The Clough midfield and defence failed to deal with
Altofts outstanding passing and movement early in the game and
quickly went three down. A nice passing move saw Charlotte
Ashton score her first goal for the club, but more great play
saw Altofts go in 6-1 up at the interval. Clough improved a
great deal in the second half; Anna Martin tried hard in goal
all the game under intense pressure. Both Millie Hawksford and
Maia Hanson made a number of great tackles and Isabel Maguire
was outstanding at right back. The midfield of Charlie Cassidy,
Alex Bailey and Ashton started to get the ball down and turn
their opponents, good movement from Finty Kissane and Isobel
Hilton created a few good chances. Clough held Altofts to 1-1
for most of the second half, Ashton showed a great turn of pace
in a run from halfway which resulted in her second goal and the
girl-of-the-game award Altofts got a couple of late goals to
give a result that didn’t reflect the way Clough played.

A team performance of the season saw Howden Clough Under 12 Girls come
away from Kirkburton with a 8 -1 win. They settled into the match
after 10 minutes and from there on dominated the game.
Girl of the Game Clare Booth opened the scoring with a well
executed goal and carried on throughout the game showing us all
what great speed and ball skills she has. Isobel Hilton had
another great solid performance in central defence which proved
in the amount of goals conceded.
Charlie Cassidy controlled midfield and deservedly bagged a
brace with a long distance shot for her first of the game and a
volley close to goal from a corner kick for her second. A great
solo run by Demi Nichols saw her score the first of 2 goals and
showed great ball control down the left wing. Finty Kissane has
now made the right wing her own position, like last week she
showed great determination, ball control and skill by passing
by the opposition, providing great crosses into the box and got
on to a corner kick to get onto the score sheet with a well
deserved goal.
Charlotte Ashton showed real determination through out, she
defended the corners well, cleared the ball out of danger and
came away with a goal for all her hard work. Megan Ryan
played up front and constantly gave the Kirkburton defence a lot
to think about; she provided great corners and finished the game
with a goal. Ellie Woods came close to scoring and tackled well;
Charlotte Flynn came on in defence and never came second to
any ball. Maia Hanson and Isabel Maguire both defended well as
always, both tackling hard and and always coming away with the
ball. Anna Martin gave another marvellous goal keeping display
making a great dive to her left early in the second half from a
long distance shot and another 1 minute later taking the ball on
the outside of the post.
This was a performance to remember for the passion, confidence
and the team spirit they showed in the game.

Wigton Moor beat Howden Clough Under 12 Girls 1-0 in a hard
fought game on a very heavy pitch. Clough were under almost
constant pressure in the first half, but defended well
throughout the game. Charlotte Flynn worked hard, Isabel Maguire
and Isobel Hilton had their usual dependable games and Rachel
Day and Maia Hanson excelled in shoring up the defence in the
second half. Unfortunately some shy tackling in midfield in the
first half let Wigton in once too often and their centre forward
finished well, goalkeeper and Girl-of-the-Game Anna Martin could
do nothing about it despite turning in a performance full of
great saves and sure handling. Demi Nichols ran hard in midfield
but never got a decent supply. After the break Clough made a few
changes and played much better, Charlie Cassidy was simply
awesome in midfield, well supported by Alex Bailey and Charlotte
Ashton. Megan Ryan and Ellie Woods worked hard up front but
every time Clough put pressure on, a slip of concentration
allowed Wigton to clear.
As the game wore on conditions became very difficult but both
teams kept the pace up until the final whistle.

21/3/10
A great game of football between Howden Clough U12 Girls and Wigton
Moor was marred by a nasty ankle injury to striker Anna Martin
midway through the second half. Clough playing uphill and into the
wind in the first half took the game to Wigton. The midfield of
Finty Kissane, Isobel Hilton, Charlotte Ashton and Girl-of-the-Game
Charlie Cassidy dominated early on, setting up several chances for
the strike force of Megan Ryan, Alex Bailey and Clare Booth, who
worked hard but could not break the strong Wigton defence. Clough
defended well in the first half; tidy work from Isabel Maguire,
Charlotte Flynn and Maia Hanson and keeper Demi Nichols was solid
throughout the game. Clough came under more pressure in the second
half, Ellie Woods and Millie Hawksford coped well at the back but a
miss timed defensive header looped over Nichols to give Wigton the
lead. Martins injury knocked the wind out of Clough and Wigton
quickly scored a second to make the final score 2-0.

28/03/10
Howden Clough Under 12 Girls lost 3-0 at home to Norristhorpe.
Norristhorpe were up for it from the start, Clough weren’t. This
resulted in a goal for the visitors within the first minute. Two
more swiftly followed and although Cloughs play improved somewhat,
it was always going to be too big an ask. Right back Isabel Maguire
never put a foot wrong in attack or defence and was awarded
Girl-of-the-Game. Other notable performances came from Isobel Hilton, Millie Hawksford, Charlotte
Flynn and Charlie Cassidy.
