GIRLS U11 Match Reports |
|
Howden Clough U11 girls kicked off the season in some style with an 8-0 home win against Ossett Albion. Clough had a setback when their regular goalkeeper fell ill just before kick off but captain Anna Martin stepped in and kept a clean sheet. Clough settled into the game early and after a good run Finty Kissane scored the opener. Megan Ryan made it two and Charlotte Flynn got the third before Girl-of-the-game Clare Booth scored a great solo effort. In the second half Cough started to pass the ball around much better. Kissane grabbed a second goal as did Ryan from a free kick. Isabel Maguire showed great touch throughout the game and was rewarded with a goal. Ellie Woods wrapped things up, scoring after a strong challenge on the Ossett keeper. Charlie Cassidy and Amelia Hawksford both had promising debuts. ---------------------------------------------------
21/9/08
It was a feisty affair
when Howden Clough Under 11 Girls entertained Normanton. The
commitment of both teams matched only by the skill of Clough
and the brilliance of the Normanton keeper. Clough threw
everything at Normanton in the first half; their goalie
produced an outstanding display of shot stopping. Clough
missed a penalty and were beginning to get frustrated when,
after a clearance from a Clough corner, Anna Martin smashed
a 30 yard shot into the top corner. Soon after Isobel Hilton
grabbed her first of the season. Clough opened Normanton up
a little more in the second half. Hilton scored a second,
Finty Kissane got on the score sheet along with
Girl-of-the-game for the second week running, Clare Booth.
Charlie Cassidy scored her first goal for the club and
Martin added to her tally, despatching a late penalty.
Mistake free defending from Aishe Cetin, Charlotte Flynn,
Megan Ryan and keeper Rachel Day ensured another clean
sheet, final score 7-0. -----------------------------------------------------
28/9/08 Howden Clough U11 Girls remain unbeaten with their third consecutive win away at Norristhorpe. Clough dominated long periods of the game and Girl-of-the-game Clare Booth opened the scoring after a strong challenge on the keeper by Finty Kissane. Norristhorpe then equalised against the run of play. Isobel Hilton nudged Clough ahead again then sent Isabel Maguire clear who finished superbly. The ever dependable Kissane put Clough 4-1 up. Norristhorpe retaliated well moving the ball through midfield they scored two good goals and may have had more but for the alertness of keeper Rachel Day. Clough breathed a little easier when a great move involving Aishe Cetin, Maguire and Booth was finished by the livewire Charlie Cassidy. Charlotte Flynn was as dependable as ever in midfield and Ellie Woods and Megan Ryan were solid in defence -------------------------------------------------- 19/10/08 Howden Clough U11 Girls suffered a 3-0 home defeat to league leaders Farsley Celtic. Farsley coped much better with the windy conditions going 2-0 up in the first half, then extending their lead playing into the wind in the second half. Megan Ryan and Charlie Cassidy played well and debutant Maia Hanson won the Girl-of-the-Game award -------------------------------------------------- 9/11/08 After a two week break, Howden Clough Under 11 girls turned in their best performance of the season so far, with a 4-0 win over Norristhorpe Tigers. The highlight of the game was the clean sheet, Ellie Woods, Charlotte Flynn and Maia Hanson defended superbly and goalkeeper Rachel Day stayed alert in the terrible conditions to make a couple of outstanding saves. Anna Martin and Amelia Hawksford played the ball well through midfield maintaining a steady supply to the attack. In the second half Clough’s dominance paid off. Megan Ryan tore through the Norristhorpe midfield on a number of occasions and deservedly won Girl-of-the-game. Tireless running from Isobel Hilton was rewarded with the first goal. Clare Booth and Finty Kissane worked well together up front and Kissane scored two. Ryan completed the scoring with a powerful strike after a good run. ------------------------------------------------- 16/11/08 Howden Clough Under 11 Girls turned in another energetic, fast passing display that gave them a comfortable 10-0 win over Ossett Albion. Top scorer Finty Kissane led the line with four goals. Charlie Cassidy scored a hat trick from midfield. Ellie Woods came on just before half time and scored with her first touch. Isobel Hilton worked her socks off again and got a goal and Isabel Maguire rounded off the scoring with a close range effort. Megan Ryan and Maia Hanson had solid games in midfield. Goalie Rachel Day had little to do, but came forward for the last corner and volleyed just wide. The two best performances of the day were in defence; Charlotte Flynn was a rock and distributed the ball superbly. Amelia Hawksford won girl-of-the-game for a hard tackling, strong running performance ---------------------------------------------- 20/12/08 Howden Clough U11 girls were outmuscled by a physical Hemsworth Miners Welfare side and despite playing the better football for much of the game were on the wrong end of a 5-1 score line. The three smallest Clough players were the best on show, Clare Booth won Girl-of –the-Game for a good all round display and Maia Hanson and Isabel Maguire got stuck in. Finty Kissane scored a great goal for Clough from a good corner from Isobel Hilton. ------------------------------------------------- 4/1/09 The New Year brought no change in fortune for the Under 11 girls, again dominating the majority of play only to lose 4-0 to Horsforth. Several Clough players shone, Anna Martin played well up front and Charlotte Flynn and Megan Ryan won plenty of ball and distributed well. After a blow to the head which knocked her clean off her feet, Aishe Cetin stayed on the field to produce a girl-of-the-game performance, outstanding in defence and midfield. ---------------------------------------------------- 18/01/09 Howden Clough Under 11 Girls visited top of the table Farsley Celtic, turned in a great performance and were unlucky to come away with nothing, losing 2-0. Clough piled on the pressure in the first half, winning seven corners in the first ten minutes. Unfortunately the last pass too often went astray and they failed to turn the dominance into goals. A defensive lapse allowed Farsley to take the lead against the run of play just before half time and a lucky punt upfield managed to lob the keeper at the start of the second half. Amelia Hawksford and Ellie woods had good games, Megan Ryan and Charlie Cassidy dominated the midfield throughout. Rachel Day was awarded Girl-of-the-Game for a brave display of goalkeeping. ---------------------------------- 31/01/09
Howden Clough
Under 11 Girls came away from Battyeford with a 1-0
win after a blinding match. Both teams played with
passion and flair and it was end to end stuff the
entire game. Charlotte Flynn, Maia Hanson and Ellie
Woods defended well for Clough’s clean sheet. Keeper
Rachel Day turned in another gutsy performance. Anna
Martin, Clare Booth and Isobel Hilton worked hard up
front creating several chances the Battyeford goalie
did well to keep out. The game was won in midfield,
Megan Ryan and Aishe Cetin were dominant, and
Charlie Cassidy covered every blade of grass and won
Girl-of-the-Game. With 3 minutes to go, looking like
a goalless draw, Ryan picked the ball up in
midfield, Martin and Booth drew the Battyeford
defence and Ryan powered through and finished well. ----------------------------------------- 15/2/09 Howden Clough Under 11 Girls progressed to the semi finals of the West Riding cup with a stunning 7-1 win over Horsforth St Margaret's. Clough bossed the midfield from the start with energetic performances from Charlie Cassidy and Megan Ryan, and scored 2 early goals from Anna Martin and Clare Booth. Clough defended exceptionally Isabel Maguire was solid and Aishe Cetin won Girl-of-the-Game for an outstanding defensive display. Goalkeeper Rachel Day tipped a fierce Horsforth shot onto the bar at a vital moment in the game. Booth finished well after a great through ball from Isobel Hilton to make it 3-0 at the break. Clough comfortably dominated the second half; Finty Kissane came on and scored two, as did Martin to complete her hat trick. Horsforth scored a good consolation goal near the end. --------------------------------------------- 21/2/09
Howden
Clough Under 11 Girls made hard work of a 3-2
victory away at Normanton. The scoreline flattered the opposition, Clough were camped in the Normanton half for most of the game. Normanton scored first, against the run of play with a breakaway goal, a couple of minutes later only a brave save from keeper Rachel Day stopped a repeat. Finty Kissane came on as an early substitute and equalised with her first touch. All the Clough players played well, Ellie Woods, Charlotte Flynn and Maia Hanson defended well, Isabel Maguire worked hard and Isobel Hilton won Girl-of-the-Game for a skilful energetic display. Clough should have had a hatful in the second half. As it was Aishe Cetin capped a great display with a goal and Anna Martin scored a trademark long range effort to make it 3-1. Normanton grabbed a late goal to give Clough something to think about; again a great save by Day ensured Clough left with the points. ------------------------------------------------- 8/03/09 Burley Trojans 2 Howden Clough U11 Girls 7 was another great score line for the girls. Although the team showed little of their current form in a scrappy first half a good finish from Charlie Cassidy and a goal from leading scorer Finty Kissane meant Clough went in at the break two up. The game improved in the second half. Ellie Woods and Aishe Cetin defended well. Isobel Hilton had a great game moving the ball out of defence and through midfield. Megan Ryan soon stamped her mark on the game and scored two, Clare Booth also made a big impact in the second period and grabbed a couple. Anna Martin finished off the scoring. In the last few minutes Clough were caught a few times pushing too hard but a number of good saves from Rachel Day and a Girl-of-the-Game defensive show from Charlotte Flynn ensured Clough were never in trouble. --------------------------------------------- 22/3/09 It was a disappointing last league fixture for Howden Clough U11 Girls. Needing a win to secure 2nd place in the league, they went down 3-1 to Hemsworth Miners Welfare. Clough competed well throughout the game and played the much better football. Unfortunately they could not cope with the physical Hemsworth side; this was not helped when Clough lost midfield lynchpin Megan Ryan with a nasty ankle injury early on. Maia Hanson, Ellie Woods and Millie Hawksford defended well, Charlie Cassidy, Aishe Cetin and Isabel Maguire had good games in midfield. Clare Booth easily won Girl-of-the-game for a gutsy, energetic performance and Finty Kissane got Cloughs goal. --------------------------------------- 26/04/09 Howden Clough U11 Girls beat the mighty Wigton Moor to book a place in the final of the West Riding Cup. Wigton came into the game strongly fancied having not lost a league or cup game for 2 seasons but Clough were up for this one. Wigton started the better but Clough soon got into their stride and then the game was evenly matched throughout. Chances were at a premium with both teams defending well, Megan Ryan, Aishe Cetin, Charlotte Flynn and Maia Hanson had great games at the back. Finty Kissane, Anna Martin and Clare Booth worked hard up front for little reward. Clough just about edged this game in midfield, the electric Charlie Cassidy was everywhere and Girl-of-the-game Isobel Hilton was outstanding. After a tight 1st half the game opened up in the second. Keeper Rachel Day never put a foot wrong all day, the one time a fierce shot did beat her, the crossbar saved the day. Clough then lost captain Anna Martin to injury. Just when extra time and penalties loomed, Charlie Cassidy hit a speculative shot that evaded everyone including the Wigton keeper. Ellie Woods and Amelia Hawksford came on as late subs and Clough held onto their lead to progress to their first final. --------------------------------- |
