Player and Coach Development Policy
Under 11's and 12's-Within League Rules

Continue individual soccer skills and team work coaching, concentrate on technical ability and tactics, monitor improvement of and promote individuals responsibility for improvement. Increase the stretching routines to include light stamina training, continue warm up and cool down sessions before and after games as well as training sessions. Begin to place players in positions of play (for continuity) but still move them around within the team occasionally. Organise into 1st and 2nd teams (within league rules), 1st team coach to have first pick of the age group, players not required for 1st team duty in that week to be included in the 2nd team squad. Continue the theme that winning is fun without pressure to succeed, success is expected more in 1st team than in the 2nd.
Where possible play friendly games where the 1st and 2nd teams can be mixed to make up teams, this promotes teamwork throughout the age group, training games would be a good starting point for this. All players in these age groups to train together.

Match report for Howden Clough U11 orange.
Sunday 5th October - Home Vs New Lodge
Clough managed to keep their 100% record intact although the 5-3 score line flattered to deceive. New Lodge were able to stop Cloughs normal flowing game with the home team reverting to last seasons 7-a-side kick and rush football. The back four of Briggs, Johnson, Butterfield & Anderson hadn't really settled into the game when Johnson picked up an ankle injury which meant Mayman had to drop back into defence. This caused further disruption to the midfield with Scholes replacing the injured Johnson and taking up a central midfield role. Buglass could do little in goal as New Lodge forced Clough to defend deep resulting in 2 scrappy goals for the away team in first half.  Woodward & Haigh, on the wings, were rarely in the game with the majority of play being concentrated to the centre of the field. Spencer was less than his usual inspirational self as captain but battled well to ensure Clough had the majority of the ball. Clough could consider themselves lucky to go in 2-2 at the break with goals from Redman (MoM) and Harrington. A slight improvement in the football in the second half saw Redman go on to score his 2nd hat-trick in 3 games with Scholes also netting to make it 5. Spence came on to replace Harrington in the second half but this didn't help improve the teams performance.

Oct 12th Howden Clough u11 2-3 Tingley
Howden Clough U11 Orange lost their 100% league record with a 3-2 home defeat to Tingley. An out of sorts Clough took the lead mid way through the first half with a long range effort from Haigh, lobbing the keeper for his first of the season. Tingley had threatened through a few set pieces but some last ditch defending by Clough's back line of Briggs, Mayman, Butterfield & Anderson had kept Tingley at bay. Cloughs midfield of Haigh, Spencer, Scholes & Woodward rarely got the ball out of their feet to play football and as a result Tingley equalised and then went on to take the lead. Redman had a few half chances during the first half and finally managed to force the ball home to equalise before half time. Tingley took the lead shortly after the interval despite the efforts of Buglass (MoM), who is going from strength to strength as the now resident keeper. Harrington managed a few efforts on goal but with Cloughs pace upfront being matched by Tingleys back line, Clough never looked like getting back in the game. Spence had spells on for Haigh & Harrington but, like last week, couldn't help maintain Cloughs unbeaten record.

Match report for Sunday 19th October 2003
Clough U11 Orange were back to winning ways with a convincing 4-1 victory away to New Lodge. Despite some attractive football, blustery conditions conspired against Clough in the first half though they rarely looked like conceding. Buglass continues to go from strength to strength in goal with the defensive line of Briggs (MoM), Butterfield, Johnston & Anderson looking unbeatable at times. Spencer and Mayman controlled the game from the centre of midfield with Haigh & Woodward providing an outlet down the wings. Redman & Scholes played well together up front with Redman adding another 2 goals to his growing tally. Butterfield and Haigh were replaced by Spence & Harrington at the interval with Harrington soon getting on the score sheet with the fourth coming from Spencer. A late consolation goal from New Lodge, from one of only 2 adventures into Cloughs half in the second half, left the score line not truly reflecting Cloughs dominance.

Clough U11 Orange ran out commanding 14-2 victors away to Townville Juniors Greens. Illness and holidays meant both teams were reduced to 9 players but Clough adapted better than Townville. Clough went into the half-time break 4-1 up with goals from Scholes (MoM), Harrington & 2 from Spencer. Buglass in goal was rarely troubled as the defensive line-up of Anderson, Johnston, Mayman & Woodward easily snubbed out any Townville attacks. Playing down hill in the 2nd half Clough showed their dominance with a hat-trick from Redman, 4 from Woodward, 1 more from Spencer to bring up his hat-trick and 1 more from Harrington to round off the game.

HCJFC U11 Orange scraped through with a 3-2 home win against Altofts Juniors to keep up their early challenge in the race for the title. Neither side settled in the game with first half efforts being kept to a minimum. Buglass made some brave saves to keep the visitors at bay with some sterling defending and last ditch tackles from MoM Johnston in the centre of defence. Butterfield sustained a slight head injury half way the half so Mayman had to revert back from centre of midfield into defence and combined well with Johnson to keep Altofts out. A midfield of Spencer, Scholes, Bownass & Woodward struggled to impose themselves on the game though some neat football down the right resulted in a goal from Woodward to take Clough 1-0 into half time. Redman & Spence upfront didn't see a lot of the game in the first half but kept plugging away. Half time substitutions of Haigh, Harrington & Bradbury unsettled the team a little with Haigh having to come off almost straight away with an injury. Altofts started the second half well equalising quite soon, then going on to take a 2-1 lead before Briggs fired in a shot from outside the box easily beating their keeper. Clough continued pressing and a low drive into the bottom corner of the goal from Spencer earned Clough all 3 points.

16/11/03 Clough's U11 Orange ran out convincing 6-1 winners at home to Thornes Colts Blue. Clough commanded the game from the kick-off but were unable to convert their chances in the early stages. Thornes, against the run of play, broke away mid way through the first half and opened the scoring but Cloughs heads didn’t drop and they were straight back on the offensive. Some neat football from Clough saw Scoles get the equaliser and constant pressure from Clough for the rest of the half had Scholes with his second and another from Redman to take Clough 3-1 in at the break. Buglass, in goal, was never troubled in the second half and the defensive line up of Briggs, Johnston, Butterfield & Anderson (MoM), rarely had to spend any time defending. The mid-field of Woodward, Mayman, Spencer & Scholes controlled the game and made sure the striking line up of Redman & Harrington had plenty of chances. Further goals from Mayman, Woodward and Scholes' 3rd had the game beyond Thornes reach mid way through the second half. Bradbury & Bownass came on for the second half and helped in ensuring Cloughs challenge for the title continues.

Match report for HCJFC U11 Orange 23/11/03
Clough suffered only their second defeat of the season, 1-0 away to Royston Juniors, and were unlucky not to get something out of the game. A lively start from Clough saw them dominate possession in the early part of the game but a mix up in defence saw Royston take the lead against the run of play. Johnston (MoM) was nothing short of spectacular in the centre of defence with Butterfield, Anderson & Briggs ensuring Buglass was quiet in goal. Redman & Scholes had a number of chances narrowly miss but the signs were that this wasn't going to be Cloughs day. A midfield of Woodward, Spencer, Mayman & Harrington battled well in the first half but were unable to break down the Royston defence. Substitutes Haigh, Bownass & Spence came on for the second half with more pressure being applied to the Royston goal. Redman saw more chances go just wide with Haigh shooting over the bar from just outside the box. A late, and rare, excursion into the Clough half late on in the game had Buglass pulling off double close range saves to keep Clough in the game before Clough hit the side netting. An excellent game of football for the neutral but disappointing for the players after all their efforts.

7/12/03 Clough U11 Orange suffered their 3rd successive defeat, 5-0, at home to title contenders Rothwell Juniors. Clough started the more nervous of the 2 teams and despite some brave keeping from Buglass saw themselves 3-0 down at half time. A back four of Briggs, Mayman, Butterfield (MoM) & Anderson were under pressure most of the game. The midfield of Woodward, Scholes, Spencer & Haigh were less than their commanding selves in the first half with Rothwell dominating the play. Redman & Harrington up front had very few chances in the whole of the game with Rothwell spending more time camped in the Clough half. Half time substitutes Bownass & Spence could do little to improve Cloughs game though a more determined team performance restricted Rothwell to only 2 more goals in the second half.

14/12/03  U11 Orange lost away to title contenders Rothwell Juniors 4-2, but despite only having 10 men and under very windy conditions, battled hard throughout the game. Clough were managing to hold Rothwell at bay early in the game with good performances from a makeshift midfield of Bownass, Scholes, Spencer & Bradbury (MoM). A back line of Anderson, Mayman, Johnston & Harrington kept Rothwell out but when keeper Buglass was needed he made some outstanding saves. Rothwell finally managed to break down Cloughs resistance half way through the first period with a break away goal and then went on to score twice more before the interval. A few changes at half time with Bownass and Harrington swapping their defensive and midfield roles saw Clough take the game to Rothwell with Redman forcing the ball home from close range to get Clough back in the game. A fine solo effort from Rothwell saw them restore their 3 goal cushion before Redman scored arguably the best goal of the match running onto a through ball from Harrington to lash the ball into the roof of the net. More pressure from Clough could have had Redman with his hat-trick but for a last ditch tackle from the Rothwell defence. Overall a disappointing result for the effort and resilience shown by Clough.

11/1/04 U11 Orange at Home to Mapplewell Mavericks . A disappointing start to the new year with a 2-1 home defeat to Mapplewell Mavericks. Mapplewell started the brighter with Clough struggling to keep the ball and a mix up in defence saw Mapplewell take the lead early in the first half, despite the best efforts of Buglass (MoM). Bownass had a good debut at right back and even with the usual reliable games from Anderson, Johnston & Butterfield in defence, Clough struggled to keep Mapplewell at bay. The midfield of Woodward, Mayman, Spencer & Harrington fought hard for the ball but too easily gave possession back to Mapplewell. A rare piece of good football interchange resulted in Redman latching onto a through ball and slotting the ball past the keeper but more unsettled play followed with Mapplewell regaining their one goal advantage just before the break. Mapplewell picked up where they'd left off in the first half and had it not been for excellent saves from Buglass, Clough could have seen themselves 5-1 down within minutes of the restart. Briggs came on for the injured Woodward in the second half and performed well on the right of midfield but with Clough rarely getting and keeping the ball, was unable to impose himself on the game. Scholes partnered Redman well up front and was unfortunate not to see his efforts rewarded with a goal.

21/3/04 South Elmsall Reds 3-2 Clough
HC U11 Red's disappointing run of results continued with a 3-2 defeat away to South Elmsall Reds. Clough commanded the game from the kick-off and were unlucky to go behind following a mix up in defence. The back line of Bowness, Mayman, Johnston & Butterfield stopped waiting for an offside decision that never came and this left South Elmsalls striker with a tap in from close range which Buglass could do nothing about. Cloughs heads didn't drop and with some excellent interplay through a midfield of Briggs, Spencer (MoM), Scholes and Haigh quite a few chances were created. Woodward & Redman up front had a number of good chances with South Elmsalls defence making some last ditch tackles to keep the lead. Scholes got Clough back in the game following a superb ball through from Woodward, leaving their keeper with no chance. Anderson & Harrington replaced Butterfield & Briggs for the second half and with Haigh, Scholes and Woodward combining well on the wing, Scholes crossed for Redman to drive home from close range straight from the kick-off. South Elmsall equalised straight away with Buglass making an excellent save from a long range effort but South Elmsall were the quicker to react and knock the ball home. Clough kept on pushing for the winner but another mix up in defence saw South Elmsall take an undeserved lead and hold on to win the game. Spencer and Scholes worked tirelessly in midfield and were unlucky not to get an equaliser or push on for a deserved win.
